In this Photoshop tutorial, we’re going to learn how to create an interesting photo effect by taking an image and turning it into a series of interweaving strips. We’ll be using a few layers and layer masks in the tutorial, as well as a couple of clipping masks and a layer style, and we’ll be turning on Photoshop’s grid to help us out.

The first time I saw this Photoshop effect, I thought “Wow, there’s some really advanced stuff going on there!”. But as with most things in life, after thinking about it for a few minutes, I realized just how simple it really is, as we’ll see!

James Kazan resides in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. He took his first photo class in 1967 where he learned to shoot and develop film using Graflex 4×5’s. Mr. Kazan continued on to the university level, where he worked with large format, 35mm, film, and video. James is a graduate of Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. He spent his entire career around cameras working the past thirty-three years as a television engineer at the national and local levels. Mr. Kazan has recently retired from Fox Television, having previously worked and freelanced for ABC, CBS, and NBC television networks. James has been quoted as saying, “Well, it sure beat working for a living”.
